Dear Pratt Faculty Union Members,
We write with a couple of updates regarding our work on the union Executive Committee.
From Emily Beall: As of today, I have resigned from the Vice Presidency of UFCT Local 1460. I have resigned because I believe I can be more effective in building our Union as a member and a Delegate. I am proud of my accomplishments as an Executive Committee member, including developing new member orientations, helping to advance bylaws reform, supporting faculty to organize against cuts to their courses, and opening a negotiation for a discount on our fees to our parent union. I thank Secretary Manolova for her work developing successful political education and organizing initiatives, and social media strategy, and I thank President Lipovac and Treasurer Ausch for unearthing past corruption and making our union fiscally responsible, and for their successful grievance work to defend the ARPT process. I remain proud to be a member of UFCT Local 1460.
From Secretary Velina Manolova: On May 22, I began my sabbatical from my academic work at Pratt, after earning CCE, a part-time faculty status won by our union in our inaugural collective bargaining agreement in 1973. As of today, I am also taking sabbatical leave from my duties as an officer on the union Executive Committee. Over the past two years, I have been grateful to serve in this elected position and to work with other EC members, Delegates, and rank-and-file members to grow our membership and organize for a strong and democratic union. I thank Emily Beall for her leadership, vision, and collaborative spirit, and too many other union members to name for their solidarity and ongoing union work. I thank James Lipovac and Robert Ausch for their continuing service to our union.
In solidarity,
Emily Beall and Velina Manolova
