On November 20, 2007, the New York Times published a front-page story with the headline “Decline of the Tenure Track Raises Concerns.”  We are pleased that the Times has finally seen fit to give prominent coverage to a longstanding problem in hiring practices in higher education that should be of major concern to not only faculty, but to parents and students paying the exorbitant cost of a college education, incurring loans that will last decades.  The Pratt faculty union is part of the trend to continue organizing part-time faculty (part-time and full-time faculty have been part of the same union since its establishment in the 1970's), participating in discussions with the administration to reinforce the tenure track (“CCE”) for part-time faculty (please see the “Part-Time Issues” tab for more details).    Read the NYT article
